Governor: Bairabi-Sairang Railway Line Transforms Tourism Potential in Mizoram
Mizoram Governor Vijay Kumar Singh on Friday praised the newly inaugurated Bairabi-Sairang railway line as a transformative development for the northeastern state. The 51.38-km railway project was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 13, marking Mizoram’s inclusion in the national railway network.

During a meeting with a 13-member media team from the Press Information Bureau (PIB) Cochin at the Raj Bhavan, Singh noted that the new railway line would significantly enhance tourism, facilitate transportation, lower goods costs, and reduce logistics expenses by offering a more efficient connectivity solution.

The governor informed the visiting journalists that the railway line is designed to be integrated with the ambitious Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project (KMMTTP) and expressed confidence that the remaining stretch of over 200 km would be completed on schedule.

Singh mentioned that while agriculture continues to be the primary livelihood for most people in Mizoram and large-scale industries are still developing, the state has immense potential for future growth, as stated.

He emphasized promising sectors such as tourism, organic products, high-quality ginger and turmeric, chili, aromatic and medicinal plants, the rubber mission, bamboo-based industries, among others.

Singh also informed the team that both central and state governments are actively pursuing key development projects, expressing optimism that Mizoram would experience even greater progress in the coming years.

The media team, led by PIB Cochin director Ms. Dhanya Sanal K, also traveled to Assam to examine and report on various development projects.

Dhanya told the governor that the primary aim of the press tour was not just to enable the media to study and report on the Centre’s focus areas and initiatives in the Northeast, but also to provide journalists with an opportunity to explore the region firsthand.
