Firefighter dies responding to tornado damage


LONDON, Ky. (WYMT) – A Laurel County firefighter died Saturday morning after being injured while responding to storm damage.

Officials with the Laurel County Fire Department posted on social media that Major Roger Leslie Leatherman was a dedicated public servant for nearly four decades.

The department did not share how he died, but they ask the community to, “Please keep Major Leatherman’s family, friends, and fellow responders in your thoughts and prayers.”

Officials wrote in the post, “This is a heartbreaking reminder of the dangers our first responders face every day and the incredible bravery they show in the face of disaster.”
