In a press conference at his residence, he presented data regarding the increase in the length of four-lane roads and highways throughout the last decade. The Union Minister, responsible for culture and tourism, indicated that prior to 2014, the total length of four-lane expressways in the country was “slightly more than 18,000 km”.
“Today, we take pride in saying that this has increased by 2.5 times, reaching nearly 48,200 km,” he noted, also mentioning that high-speed corridors have expanded their network by 8.5 times during this period.
Shekhawat emphasized that improvements in road infrastructure and other travel-related developments have greatly stimulated spiritual tourism. He referenced the construction and enhancement of roads leading to notable pilgrimage locations, shrines, and various religious sites across the country.
He also highlighted the Char Dham Yatra, Panchkosi Yatra, and how the boost in road infrastructure enables more individuals to undertake these journeys. In Gujarat’s Bet Dwarka, the Sudarshan Setu, he said, has improved connectivity.
Furthermore, he mentioned that the Northeast region has also seen benefits from road expansion and infrastructure improvements, making its tourist attractions more accessible and prominent.
