“It’s essential to respect the conditions and adjust your batting style accordingly. When you acknowledge the conditions, you allow flexibility in your mindset. It can’t just be a rigid approach of ‘this is how I play and that’s how I will continue to play.’
“One must be somewhat flexible in modifying their strategy; if we recognize that, many aspects can align positively,” the legend, who achieved Test hundreds during tours in 1990, 1996, and 2002, remarked.
“However, if someone is stubborn and reluctant to adapt regardless of the conditions, they might pay a steep price for that. So my guidance is to respect the conditions. You’ll know when it’s time to attack and when it’s wise to defend,” he elaborated.
Tendulkar acknowledges that India has several positives to rely on, despite the evident challenges they face in the England series. Many Indian batters have prior experience playing in England, including players like Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair, who have previously played county cricket for Northamptonshire and Surrey, respectively.
“I believe all these players have been exposed to cricket in England. Not at the international level, but they’ve had experience there. So I don’t think it will be completely unfamiliar to them. They are accustomed to these conditions.
“They have also played in South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia. All these experiences provide valuable lessons. When you combine those experiences and apply them, I think they will manage well,” Tendulkar added.
