ENG vs IND: Aggressive Harry Brook leads England to 327/5 at lunch on Day 3
Harry Brook took an aggressive stance against an erratic Indian pace attack, propelling England to 327 for five at lunch on the third day of the first Test here on Sunday.

Starting the day at an overnight score of 209 for three, Brook (57 not out off 77) ensured a rapid run rate, amassing 118 runs in 28 overs. England still trails India by 144 runs.

The visitors achieved two crucial breakthroughs, dismissing overnight centurion Ollie Pope (106 off 137) and England captain Ben Stokes (20 off 52).
Similar to day two, the trio of Prasidh Krishna, Shardul Thakur, and Mohammed Siraj lacked the precision exhibited by Jasprit Bumrah.

Brook, who was dismissed off a Bumrah no-ball at the end of day two, was dropped by wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant on 46 just before lunch. Jadeja managed to extract sharp turn from the rough, causing one to spin away vigorously, but Pant could not hold onto the rising ball.

In the same over, Brook marked his 12th Test fifty, compounding the frustration for the Indians, who have struggled with their catching throughout the match. Under the leadership of captain Shubman Gill, the Indian side was also vocal about their concerns regarding a worn Dukes ball during the session.

The umpires eventually relented before the 75th over, with a new ball set to be available after 80 overs.

This session largely belonged to the highly regarded Brook, who demonstrated audacious strokeplay from the outset.

Krishna began the day with two wayward deliveries, which Brook adeptly dispatched for a four through point and a six over mid-wicket.

Brook’s approach against the pacers, including Bumrah, was notable as he charged down the track for aerial drives over extra cover.

Krishna, in his next over, was fortunate to have Pope caught as the England number three edged a short and wide delivery to the keeper.

India’s second wicket fell after the first hour when Siraj had Stokes caught behind from around the wicket.

While Brook was the primary aggressor, Jamie Smith contributed with 29 not out off 45 balls at the other end. The pitch began to display some turn on the third day, leading the Indian team management to likely feel the absence of their No.1 specialist spinner, Kuldeep Yadav.
