The political alliance between Trump and Musk unraveled on Thursday after Musk criticized a tax and spending policy bill supported by the president. The exchange on social media became increasingly personal, surprising observers in Washington and on Wall Street.
While Vice President JD Vance expressed support for Trump on X, stating he was “proud to stand beside him” and commended him for having “done more than anyone in my lifetime to earn the trust of the movement he leads,” the interview with Von marked Vance’s first direct remarks about Musk since the dispute began.
The president had advised Vance to approach the topic of Musk diplomatically before his podcast appearance, according to a source familiar with the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity. “The president doesn’t think he needs to be in a blood feud with Elon Musk, and I actually think if Elon chilled out a little bit, everything would be fine,” Vance added.
