US President Donald Trump, in a statement on his social media platform, Truth Social, addressed the ongoing unrest in Iran.

The 47th president remarked, “If Iran shoots and violently kills peaceful protesters, as is their custom, the United States of America will come to their aid. We are locked and loaded and ready to go. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP”

According to Iranian media and rights groups, several fatalities occurred during the unrest in Iran on Thursday, as the largest protests in three years—stemming from worsening economic conditions—led to violence in multiple provinces.

The semi-official Fars news agency reported that three protesters were killed and 17 were injured during an assault on a police station in Iran’s western Lorestan province.

The confrontations between protesters and security forces represent a notable escalation in the unrest that has swept the country since shopkeepers began demonstrating on Sunday against the government’s management of a severe currency devaluation and rapidly escalating prices.
