Digital Passport Verification Now Available on DigiLocker: Understanding the New Feature
Passport holders can now directly access their Passport Verification Record (PVR) on DigiLocker, thanks to an integration by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). This initiative minimizes reliance on physical documents and broadens the availability of government-issued records in digital format.

MeitY stated that the integration allows citizens to “securely access, store, share, and digitally verify” their PVRs within the DigiLocker ecosystem, promoting a paperless and contactless service experience.

How to access your passport verification record?

Once the police verification for a passport is finalized, the PVR is automatically made available in the individual’s DigiLocker account.
Users can access it from the “Issued Documents” section through either of the following:

  • DigiLocker mobile app
  • DigiLocker web portal

No separate application or request is necessary; the document will appear once the verification process is completed by the issuing system.

What DigiLocker provides?

DigiLocker is a cloud-based service under the Digital India initiative that enables citizens to store and access government-issued digital records, including Aadhaar, driving licenses, and academic certificates. It facilitates secure sharing and real-time verification of documents without the need for physical copies.

Key benefits of having PVR on DigiLocker

  • Individuals can review or download their PVR at any moment, which is especially beneficial for urgent travel arrangements, employment background checks, or compliance needs across various sectors.
  • The PVR is issued directly from government systems and stored within DigiLocker’s secure framework, ensuring its authenticity and safeguarding against unauthorized alterations.
  • Recruiters, travel agents, and various agencies often require passport verification. A digital PVR allows for swift sharing of the official record, minimizing delays associated with missing or outdated physical documents.
  • Users can electronically share the document with authorized organizations through DigiLocker’s consent-based framework, eliminating the need for attested photocopies or multiple uploads on different platforms.
