Davos 2026: Trump Indicates Advancement in India-US Trade Discussions, Promises “a Positive Agreement”
US President Donald Trump indicated progress on a possible India–US trade agreement, stating that the two nations are on track for a positive outcome.

In an interview with Moneycontrol during the World Economic Forum 2026 in Davos, Trump remarked, “I have immense respect for Prime Minister Modi. He’s an outstanding individual and a friend of mine. We’re going to secure a beneficial deal.” His comments reflect a renewed focus on trading, technological, and strategic collaboration between New Delhi and Washington.

Trump’s statements have heightened anticipation for a revival in bilateral trade relations, which have faced tensions over tariffs, market accessibility, and digital trade regulations.
Officials from both countries have suggested that talks are centered on resolving persistent issues while enhancing collaboration in sectors like manufacturing, critical minerals, defence, and emerging technologies.
