Five-time champions Chennai Super Kings have faced a significant blow ahead of the forthcoming Indian Premier League season, with Australian fast bowler Nathan Ellis sidelined due to a hamstring injury, as confirmed by a franchise official on Thursday.
The 31-year-old was slated to take charge of the pace attack, especially with Sri Lankan quick Matheesha Pathirana unavailable after being acquired by Kolkata Knight Riders. “Yes, he is out. We have not yet settled on a replacement,” a CSK official informed PTI.
Ellis, who has taken 19 wickets in 17 IPL appearances, was signed by CSK for ₹2 crore at the 2025 mega auction after spending four seasons with Punjab Kings, and was retained for the upcoming 2026 season.
CSK has yet to announce a replacement. The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led team kicks off their campaign against Rajasthan Royals on March 30 in Guwahati.
