Congress unveils initial roster of 284 candidates for West Bengal elections.
The Congress on Sunday, March 29, unveiled its first list of 284 candidates for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, nominating former state unit chief Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury from Baharampur and ex-TMC MP Mausam Noor from Malatipur.

The Congress, which is contesting independently in the polls for the 294 assembly seats in the state, disclosed the names of 284 candidates in a single announcement.

Chowdhury is set to contest from Baharampur, while Noor, who recently joined the Congress from Malatipur, will also be a candidate. Additionally, the party has nominated Madhap Rai from Darjeeling, Abdul Hannan from Sujapur, Susmita Biswas from Dum Dum, Gautam Bhattacharya from Diamond Harbour, Souvik Mukherjee from Asansol Dakshin, and Prasenjit Puitandi from Asansol Uttar.
The candidate announcement followed a day of extensive discussions among senior Congress leaders regarding the list for the upcoming West Bengal assembly elections during the Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting held here.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, former party chief Rahul Gandhi, AICC general secretary K C Venugopal, and various leaders from West Bengal participated in the meeting.

Noteworthy attendees also included former West Bengal Congress chief Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and CEC members — Ambika Soni, Madhusudan Mistry, Salman Khurshid, T S Singhdeo, K J George, P L Punia, and Amee Yajnik — as well as AICC in-charge for West Bengal, Ghulam Ahmed Mir.

Mir informed reporters that the party had received 2,500 applications for the 294 assembly seats.

“We will contest all 294 assembly seats in West Bengal, ensuring none are left vacant. This has been the desire of our workers and supporters in the state from the outset. We have received 2,500 applications for these 294 seats,” Mir stated.

The West Bengal assembly elections will take place in two phases on April 23 and 29, with vote counting scheduled for May 4.
