Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi have both reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a request for a special session of Parliament to discuss the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.

The demand for this special session arises following the tragic incident on April 22, which resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals, primarily tourists, leading to national mourning and widespread outrage.

India has referenced “cross-border linkages” regarding the Pahalgam attack and has committed to taking strong action against those responsible.
Rahul Gandhi advocates for a united response to terrorism

In his letter to Prime Minister Modi, Gandhi emphasized the necessity for Parliament to present a united front against terrorism.

“The terrorist attack in Pahalgam has provoked outrage among all Indians. At this vital juncture, India must manifest its solidarity against terrorism,” he stated in the letter.

“The Opposition asserts that a special session of both Houses of Parliament should be called, allowing representatives of the people to showcase their unity and resolve,” Gandhi further stated.

By sharing the letter on X (formerly Twitter), Gandhi reaffirmed that “India must demonstrate that we stand united against terrorism.”

Kharge stresses the importance of unity and solidarity

Similarly, the Congress President wrote to PM Modi, highlighting the need for a swift and united political response. “In this critical moment, when unity and solidarity are vital, the Opposition believes a special session of both Houses of Parliament should be convened promptly,” he remarked.

Emphasizing the significance of showing collective political will, Kharge added, “This will serve as a powerful testament to our unified determination to confront the horrific terror attack in Pahalgam on innocent lives on April 22, 2025. We sincerely hope that the session will be convened accordingly.”
