Approximately 97.4 lakh names have been removed from Tamil Nadu’s electoral rolls after the enumeration phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, resulting in a total voter population of 5.43 crore, announced Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik on Friday.
Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat, Patnaik revealed that the pre-SIR electoral roll had recorded 6.41 crore voters as of October 27, 2025. The revised draft, made public on Friday after the enumeration phase concluded on December 14, has been circulated to district election officers and registered political parties throughout the state.
According to the updated draft rolls, Tamil Nadu currently has 2.77 crore male voters and 2.66 crore female voters. The count of third-gender voters is 7,191, and the total for differently-abled voters stands at 4.19 lakh.
Patnaik mentioned that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and Booth Level Agents (BLAs) conducted up to three household visits during the enumeration phase. As a result of this effort, names of voters who were deceased, permanently relocated, absentee, or registered in multiple places were excluded from the draft list.
Out of the 97.4 lakh deletions, 26.94 lakh were deceased voters, 66.44 lakh were permanently relocated or absentee voters, and 3.39 lakh were identified as multiple enrolments. Furthermore, around 12,000 individuals chose not to be included during the SIR campaign, she noted.
The Election Department has now initiated the claims and objections process. Voters can request inclusion using Form 6, raise objections via Form 7, or apply for corrections and address changes through Form 8. Submissions can be made through Booth Level Officers or online platforms, Patnaik stated, adding that special camps will also be organized to assist voters.
She remarked that those returning from Sri Lanka who have applied for enrolment using Form 6 will be verified by Electoral Registration Officers, who may request additional documentation if necessary.
Among the Assembly constituencies, Sholinganallur, Pallavaram, and Alandur have seen the highest number of voter deletions, according to the Chief Electoral Officer.
