Key details of BMC elections 2026
The 227-member BMC is considered India’s largest and wealthiest civic body. Approximately 1,700 candidates are vying for the 2026 civic polls, including 879 women and 821 men, according to news agency PTI.
This represents a notable decline of over 25% in the overall number of candidates compared to the last elections in 2017, when 2,275 candidates contested, including 1,190 males, 1,084 females, and one transgender candidate, as reported by PTI.
Importance of verifying your name on the voter list
Election officials emphasize that voters must check their inclusion in the final voter list to prevent issues on polling day. Individuals not listed will not be able to cast their votes.

While having a printout or screenshot of the voter slip may assist at the booth, it does not constitute proof of identity.
Additionally, voters must bring a valid photo ID, such as an Aadhaar card, PAN card, or passport, to the polling station.
