Bharat Forge Secures ₹425 Crore Defense Contract for Gas Turbine Generators for Indian Navy

Bharat Forge Stock Rises Following Major Small Arms Contract with Defence Ministry
Bharat Forge Ltd, a leading manufacturer of auto components, announced on Friday (June 19) that it has secured a ₹425 crore contract with the Ministry of Defence to supply Gas Turbine Generators (GTGs) for onboard power generation on Kolkata-class ships for the Indian Navy.

The contract, which will be executed over five years, falls under the Buy (Indian) category of the Defence Acquisition Procedure 2020 (DAP-2020), the company stated.


The GTGs, with a capacity of 1.25 MW, are set to replace the existing lower-capacity units currently in use aboard the vessels. The new systems are designed for onboard power generation needs for the Indian Navy.

On the previous day, Bharat Forge’s defense subsidiary, Kalyani Strategic Systems Ltd (KSSL), entered a strategic partnership with US military vehicle manufacturer AM General at the Eurosatory defense exhibition in Paris.

The collaboration aims to provide mounted artillery gun platforms to military clients worldwide, concentrating on 155mm systems tailored for mobility and adaptability across various terrains and weather conditions.

Amit Kalyani, Vice Chairman and Joint Managing Director of Bharat Forge Ltd, the parent company of KSSL, remarked, “Our collaboration with AM General is built on trust in our advanced artillery capabilities and confidence in our commitment to delivering state-of-the-art, combat-proven solutions
that fulfill modern battlefield requirements.”

As part of this partnership, AM General has proposed to join the US Army’s Mobile Tactical Cannon (MTC) program. This proposal encompasses the development and delivery of a 155mm MTC solution based on KSSL’s Mounted Artillery Gun (MArG) platform, with anticipated delivery by 2027 if selected.

According to the companies, the MArG platform is equipped with a 52-calibre 155mm cannon, a recoil mitigation system, an automated load-assist mechanism, and an all-weather fire control suite. This system is capable of firing standard high-explosive projectiles at ranges over 40 kilometers and can carry more than 20 projectiles and propellant charges onboard.

Shares of Bharat Forge Ltd closed at ₹2,048.00, gaining ₹29.30, or 1.45%, on the BSE.
