Assam Assembly Elections 2026: PM Modi Claims Congress is Illegally Assisting Infiltrators

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov conferred with Prime Minister Modi to enhance strategic relations.
On Wednesday, April 1, Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the Congress party of trying to enact legislation to protect infiltrators in Assam if they regain power, claiming that such a action would distort the demographic balance for political advantage.

While addressing a poll rally in Gogamukh, Dhemaji district, as part of the ongoing campaign for the Assam Assembly Elections 2026, Modi asserted that the BJP and its allies would resist any such initiative.

The Prime Minister alleged that the opposition’s goal is to establish a reliable vote bank.
“Congress leaders are outright stating that they will introduce new legislation in Assam to safeguard infiltrators, openly backing them,” PM Modi alleged, according to news agency PTI.

He went on to assert that Congress aims to “convert the majority community into a minority and form a permanent vote bank of infiltrators”.

Modi further accused the party of attempting to fragment the nation similarly to the Muslim League during the Partition. “The Congress has also betrayed the Constitution drafted by Babasaheb Ambedkar,” Modi stated.

The Prime Minister remarked that if the BJP regains power in Assam, it would implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), while ensuring the protection of tribal communities under the Sixth Schedule to maintain the state’s identity.

“The BJP’s decade-long governance marked a new era of ‘seva’ (service) and ‘sushasan’ (good governance) in Assam,” he noted, adding that citizens throughout the state believe that only the BJP-led NDA can foster modern infrastructure development in Assam.

“The BJP will achieve a hat-trick in the Assam elections with the people’s support, while the Congress will reach a century of electoral defeats,” he added.

Modi is visiting the state for a day to campaign for BJP candidates ahead of the assembly polls. Following Gogamukh, he is set to hold another rally in Behali, located in Biswanath district.
