Along with this announcement, a new Economic Impact Report by Keystone Strategy indicated that Amazon has invested nearly $40 billion in India since 2010. The report highlights that these investments, which include employee salaries and infrastructure improvements, have positioned Amazon as the largest foreign investor in India, the leading facilitator of e-commerce exports, and one of the top job creators in the country.
Keystone reported that Amazon has digitized more than 12 million small businesses, enabled $20 billion in total e-commerce exports, and supported around 2.8 million jobs—direct, indirect, induced, and seasonal—across various sectors in India by 2024. The company has focused on building fulfillment centers, transportation systems, data centers, digital payment infrastructures, and advancements in technology.
Amit Agarwal, Senior Vice President of Emerging Markets at Amazon, stated that the company would maintain alignment with India’s Atmanirbhar and Viksit Bharat vision, adding that Amazon plans to democratize AI access, generate 1 million job opportunities, and boost cumulative e-commerce exports to $80 billion by 2030.
With the newly announced investment, Amazon aims to enhance digital transformation, improve infrastructure, and foster innovation. The financial commitment will expand AI capabilities, improve logistics, support small businesses, and create jobs.
By 2030, Amazon intends to create an additional 1 million jobs—direct, indirect, induced, and seasonal—on top of the 2.8 million supported in 2024. These jobs are expected to arise from business growth and the expansion of its fulfillment and delivery networks, which also benefits related sectors such as packaging, manufacturing, and transportation.
Amazon Global Selling, celebrating a decade of operations, has facilitated over $20 billion in cumulative exports from India. As part of its objective to achieve $80 billion in exports by 2030, Amazon launched “Accelerate Exports,” an initiative to link digital entrepreneurs with manufacturers and assist manufacturers in becoming global sellers. The company will conduct onboarding initiatives across more than 10 manufacturing clusters, including Tirupur, Kanpur, and Surat. At the summit, Amazon also announced a collaboration with the Apparel Export Promotion Council of India to enhance this program.
The company outlined plans to extend AI benefits to small businesses, customers, and students. By 2030, Amazon aims to provide AI tools to 15 million small businesses, enhance the shopping experience for hundreds of millions of customers through visual discovery, conversational shopping, and multilingual features, and offer AI education and career exploration opportunities to 4 million government school students through curriculum support, technology tours, hands-on learning, and teacher training.
