Akasa Air’s membership came after it successfully completed the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), a necessary requirement for IATA membership. This audit acknowledges compliance with global operational and safety benchmarks.
IATA collaborates with airlines, regulators, and industry partners to establish global aviation standards in areas such as safety, security, sustainability, technology, and operational efficiency. Being a member allows airlines to engage in industry-wide discussions and share best practices.
As stated in the release, Akasa Air’s membership will facilitate stronger interactions with international stakeholders and involvement in initiatives focused on safety management, digital advancement, and sustainable aviation.
Sheldon Hee, Regional Vice President for Asia-Pacific at IATA, mentioned that India’s aviation industry supports 7.7 million jobs and contributes $53.6 billion to the economy, expressing anticipation for Akasa Air’s role in influencing industry priorities at both regional and global levels.
Currently, Akasa Air operates 31 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft and has placed a firm order for 226 planes. Since its inception, the airline has transported over 23 million passengers and connects 26 domestic and six international destinations.
