Air India, IndiGo, and SpiceJet Release Travel Advisory Following Iran's Airspace Closure
On Thursday (January 15), Air India, IndiGo, and SpiceJet issued a travel advisory due to the closure of Iranian airspace amid rising tensions with the US.

The three airlines noted that alternative flight routing may lead to delays and possible cancellations. They expressed regret for any inconvenience this may cause to passengers due to the unanticipated disruption.

Passengers are encouraged to check their flight status or reach out via helpline numbers.
In its advisory, Air India stated, “In light of the current situation in Iran and its airspace closure, Air India flights crossing this region are now utilizing alternative routes, which may result in delays. Some flights that cannot be rerouted are being cancelled. We urge passengers to verify their flight status on our website before proceeding to the airport. Air India regrets any inconvenience experienced by passengers due to this unexpected disruption. The safety of our passengers and crew is our utmost priority.”

According to reports from PTI, Air India cancelled at least three flights to the US, and certain European services will experience delays. The affected flights include two from the national capital to New York and Newark, as well as one from Mumbai to New York.

IndiGo issued a similar advisory, offering affected passengers the option to rebook or request a refund.

“Due to the abrupt closure of airspace by Iran, some of our international flights are affected. Our teams are actively working to evaluate the situation and provide support to impacted customers with the best alternatives available. This situation is beyond our control, and we apologize for the disruption it may cause to your travel plans. If your flight is affected, we recommend visiting our website to explore flexible rebooking options or to request a refund, according to your preference. We remain dedicated to keeping you informed and assisting you during this evolving situation. We appreciate your continued patience and understanding,” it stated.

Likewise, SpiceJet announced on X, “Due to the airspace closure in Iran, some of our flights may be impacted. Passengers should check their flight status or contact our 24/7 Reservation Helpline at +91 (0)124 4983410 or +91 (0)124 7101600 for assistance.”

On Thursday (January 15), Iran extended an order closing its airspace to commercial flights, without providing an explanation, amid ongoing tensions with the US, as reported by news agency AP.
