Reports of problems began surfacing on Sunday evening, as noted by Downdetector. The startup’s status page confirmed an initial issue at 9:35 p.m., marking it as resolved just two hours later. However, further updates on Monday revealed that DeepSeek was addressing additional performance problems that extended until 10:33 a.m.
The reasons behind the outages are not yet known, and DeepSeek has not swiftly replied to an emailed request for comment.

The prolonged downtime is atypical for a globally utilized application like DeepSeek, which has held the reputation of being China’s leading artificial intelligence service for over a year. It is also an unusual occurrence for DeepSeek, which has maintained an operational record nearing 99% since the launch of its popular R1 model in January 2025, as reported on its status page.
Since the beginning of the year, speculation has been rife that the Hangzhou-based DeepSeek is gearing up to introduce a significant update, following its attention-grabbing debut on January 20 last year. This has prompted local competitors, including Alibaba Group Holding Ltd., ByteDance Ltd., and Tencent Holdings Ltd., to launch a flurry of new AI models and services during the Lunar New Year holiday.
Excitement for DeepSeek’s next major initiative remains high, although the discreet company has not disclosed any timeline.
