This scheme, with a budget of ₹1,800 crore, will continue to enhance India’s digital immigration and visa system, managing everything from visa submissions to passenger clearance at airports.
For travelers, this ensures that visa applications will remain entirely online, with digital appointment scheduling and payments. Over the past five years, the government noted that over 91% of e-visa applications were processed within 72 hours, effectively minimizing the wait time before travel.
At airports, immigration clearance times have already been reduced to approximately 2.5–3 minutes per passenger, down from the previous 5–6 minutes. At select major airports, eligible passengers can use automated e-gates under the Fast Track Immigration–Trusted Traveller Programme (FTI-TTP), reducing clearance time to roughly 30 seconds.

The upcoming phase of the scheme will incorporate features like mobile-based services and self-service kiosks at immigration checkpoints to streamline the entry and exit processes. Upgrades will also be made to infrastructure across immigration posts and registration offices to accommodate the increasing number of passengers.

The system currently functions across 117 immigration posts and a network of registration offices nationwide, serving as the foundation of India’s visa and immigration services.
The government aims to ensure that travel to India becomes more efficient while upholding necessary security measures, as international passenger traffic continues to rise.
