Additionally, another motion was made seeking apologies from journalists Ganesh Sonawane, Harshada Sonawane, Amol Nandurkar, and Ankush Gawde for making “groundless accusations” via the YouTube channel Satya Ladha. If they do not apologize, the four may also be subjected to a five-day jail term.
BJP member Prasad Lad submitted the motions concerning More and the journalists in the Legislative Council.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis introduced a motion stating that More made objectionable remarks against council Chairman Shinde, as well as incumbent and former members, fostering an environment of hostility and mockery towards the Upper House.
The privilege committee had suggested a 30-day jail term, according to the CM.
“While the privilege committee recommended severe punishment, given More’s actions, the punishment was deemed justifiable. However, a deliberate choice was made to impose a seven-day jail term,” Fadnavis explained.
He emphasized that the House’s intention was not to punish anyone but to uphold its dignity through this action.
Regarding the motion against the journalists, Fadnavis stated that Sonawane, Nandurkar, and Gawde disseminated false information on Satya Ladha and other television platforms.
“They made unfounded allegations against MLC Amol Mitkari, aiming to tarnish his social and political reputation and create confusion among the public,” Fadnavis commented.
He noted that Satish Deshmukh, the editor of Satya Ladha, has already issued an apology that has been accepted by Mitkari.
