The World Pickleball League (WPBL) is gearing up for its Season 2 kick-off on January 27, featuring a thrilling opening match between the defending champions, Bengaluru Jawans, and the Season 1 runners-up, Pune United, at the Jio World Gardens in Mumbai. This exciting day will also include a face-off between the Dilli Dillwale and Chennai Super Champs, rounding out an engaging debut day for the competition.

The Tuesday match-ups shine a light on four franchises, each embodying their unique strategies and strengths within the league’s framework.

Head coach of Bengaluru Jawans, Oliver Strecker, stated, “Season 2 is about elevating our standards in every facet of the game. We are concentrating on consistency and decision-making under pressure, and the opening match presents a perfect opportunity to translate that preparation into performance.”
Rosti Sobek, head coach of Pune United, remarked, “Pune United embodies intensity and fearlessness. That’s our essence. The players are eager, and we are excited to establish the season’s tone right from the very first game.”

This second season showcases a significant evolution in the league’s scale and ambitions, with increased player diversity, featuring athletes from 18 countries who were selected during the draft.

The season opener between Bengaluru and Pune promises an intriguing matchup of established teams in the WPBL, while the evening clash between Dilli Dillwale and Chennai Super Champs adds another layer of interest, especially as both teams aim to achieve goals they did not reach in Season 1.

With the fast-paced nature of the WPBL, the momentum gained on the opening night could be crucial in determining the teams’ early standings.

Off-court, the WPBL has bolstered its commercial partnerships and community engagement through initiatives like WPBL On Tour.

Season 2 will feature 24 games spread over 13 match days from January 27 to February 8. All matches will be streamed live on Sony LIV and broadcast on Eurosport India simultaneously.
