Danish military denies Trump’s assertion, stating there are no Chinese or Russian vessels near Greenland.

Trump suggests the US will oversee Venezuela until a secure power transition occurs.
The leader of Denmark’s military Joint Arctic Command stated on Friday that no Chinese or Russian vessels have been sighted near Greenland, contrasting repeated assertions by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Trump has claimed that Greenland is crucial to U.S. security and has not dismissed the possibility of using force to acquire it. This week, European nations dispatched a limited number of military personnel to the island at Denmark’s request.

“We don’t see any Russian or Chinese ships around Greenland… there are indeed Chinese and Russian vessels in the Arctic Ocean, but not close to Greenland,” Major General Soren Andersen informed Reuters.
While aboard a Danish warship in Nuuk, the capital of Greenland, Andersen mentioned that he had invited the United States to take part in planned exercises on the island this year.

“Today, we held a meeting with several NATO partners, including the U.S., and extended an invitation for them to join this exercise,” Andersen said. When asked if the Americans would participate, the general responded, “I don’t know that yet.”

Denmark’s Joint Arctic Command upholds sovereignty and conducts surveillance, fisheries inspection, and search-and-rescue operations throughout Greenland and the Faroe Islands, utilizing patrol boats, aircraft, helicopters, and satellite monitoring.

Located in Nuuk, it also operates Greenland’s Sirius dog-sled patrol for extensive land missions and maintains around 150 personnel across command, logistics, and fixed Arctic stations.

In response to Trump’s remarks regarding Denmark’s defense efforts for Greenland, Copenhagen announced a 42 billion Danish crowns ($6.54 billion) Arctic defense initiative last year.
