ACLEDA Bank, which manages Cambodia’s national QR network Bakong (KHQR), will collaborate with NIPL to enable Indian travelers in Cambodia to make payments at over 4.5 million KHQR merchant locations using UPI-enabled applications. Likewise, Cambodian visitors in India will have the ability to scan more than 709 million UPI QR codes for payments via their Cambodian payment applications.
This partnership aims to provide secure, interoperable, and seamless payment solutions across retail establishments, restaurants, tourist sites, and other merchant venues in both nations. It is anticipated to benefit businesses by broadening digital payment options for consumers while improving convenience for travelers.
Ritesh Shukla, MD & CEO of NPCI International, noted that this partnership enhances digital payment corridors and enables consumers to use familiar and trusted payment methods while abroad.
In Channy, President & Group Managing Director of ACLEDA Bank, mentioned that the agreement solidifies the technical and operational framework necessary to link UPI and KHQR, promoting fast, affordable, and secure cross-border payments while driving financial innovation and regional payment interoperability aligned with ASEAN’s vision.
NIPL, established in 2020, globalizes India’s real-time payment system UPI and card scheme RuPay, offering technological support, licensing, and consultancy to other nations aiming to build domestic payment frameworks.
ACLEDA Bank, boasting total assets of $11.94 billion and over 6.18 million customers, operates within Cambodia, Myanmar, and Laos, and caters to more than 5.35 million mobile app users via its ACLEDA Super App.
