Patliputra-Gorakhpur Vande Bharat to Reduce Travel Time by Two Hours — Everything You Need to Know
Following a series of flight cancellations, the Jammu division of Northern Railways announced a special Vande Bharat train service between New Delhi and Udhampur on Tuesday, December 9. These special trains will operate for three days, from December 12 to 14, providing a reliable and cost-effective travel solution for passengers left stranded.

Recently, numerous IndiGo flights from Jammu and Srinagar airports were cancelled, prompting protests among affected travelers.

The trains, designated as 02439 (New Delhi-Udhampur Vande Bharat) and 02440 (Udhampur-New Delhi Vande Bharat), will feature 20 coaches and will conduct three trips in each direction.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal remarked that the Jammu Division arranges special trains during emergencies for passenger safety and convenience.
“Given the surge in passenger numbers due to frequent flight cancellations, the division has opted to operate a special Vande Bharat train between New Delhi and Shaheed Captain Tushar Mahajan (Udhampur). This initiative ensures that passengers reach their destinations punctually, avoiding disruptions to their travel plans,” Singhal stated as quoted by PTI.

Train No 02439 will depart from New Delhi at 6 AM, arriving in Udhampur at 2 PM, while Train No 02440 will leave Udhampur at 3 PM, reaching New Delhi by 11 PM. Both trains will stop at Ambala Cantt, Ludhiana, Pathankot Cantt, Jammu Tawi, and other key stations along the route.

Passengers can access the latest schedules and book tickets through the official Indian Railways website or the NTES app. “We urge passengers to verify authentic train information via the official Indian Railways website or the NTES (National Train Enquiry System) app before they travel,” Singhal emphasized.

In a post on X, Minister of State for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh announced, “A special #VandeBharat Train has been launched between #Udhampur and New Delhi to address the inconvenience caused by flight disruptions. This service is scheduled from December 12 to 14.”

On Tuesday evening, officials from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the Ministry of Civil Aviation, and the Airports Authority of India convened with the Prime Minister’s Office to discuss the recent flight disruptions and explore solutions for addressing passenger grievances.
