This Week in Tech: Samsung, LG, and Motorola Showcase Key Upcoming Releases for CES 2026
The first week of January 2026 is bustling for consumer tech, even prior to the official CES kickoff. Several brands have begun setting the stage—though full launches are yet to come, there’s enough activity to sketch out the trends shaping product cycles in 2026.

Portable displays, AI-enhanced audio, foldable phones, and a substantial battery—here’s what’s in store in this week’s tech wrap.

Samsung: The Freestyle+ projector (to be announced)
Samsung is gearing up to introduce The Freestyle+, an upgraded version of its compact portable projector. This iteration emphasizes automation and portability.

The Freestyle+ features AI OptiScreen, which automatically adjusts brightness, color, and framing based on the surface and room conditions, eliminating the need for manual calibration. Just place it, point, and start watching.

Its form factor remains small, featuring a cylindrical, lightweight design that’s easy to relocate or pack. Samsung markets it as a flexible screen for streaming, gaming, and casual viewing – rather than a fixed home-theatre substitute. More information will be revealed during CES 2026.

LG: xboom by will.i.am speakers (to be announced)

LG is broadening its xboom by will.i.am audio range with four new speaker models:

xboom Stage 501

xboom Blast

xboom Mini

xboom Rock

These options cater to indoor listening, outdoor playback, and compact portability. LG is highlighting AI-driven tuning and adaptive sound profiles, although detailed specifications are still sparse.

These models will be featured at CES 2026.

LG’s new monitor lineup

LG has also provided a sneak peek of five new monitors.

Three utilize OLED panels, one employs MiniLED, and one yet-to-be-detailed model.

Previously announced models include:

UltraGear EVO 52G930B (52-inch)

UltraGear EVO AI 39GX950B (39-inch)

UltraGear EVO AI 27GM950B (27-inch)

Newly included:

UltraGear OLED 32GX870B – 32-inch, 4K, 240Hz with dual-mode 1080p at 480Hz, 0.03ms response time, VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500, DP 2.1, HDMI 2.1, USB-C with 90W charging

UltraGear OLED 27GX790B – 4th-generation tandem RGB OLED, 2560x1440p resolution and a 540 Hz refresh rate, VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500, and ClearMR 21000 certification

These models are designed specifically for gaming and high-end creator applications.

Motorola: first book-style foldable and new premium smartphones (to be announced)

Motorola has teased its inaugural book-style foldable phone, anticipated to debut at CES 2026 in Las Vegas. It will be revealed alongside another new premium ‘Motorola Signature’ model boasting a fabric finish and top-tier internals. Details remain limited at this stage.

Honor Power 2 (January 5)

Honor Power 2 is set to launch in China on January 5. The standout feature here is its massive 10,080mAh battery capacity. The device will provide up to 22 hours of short-video playback and 14.2 hours of gaming.

With 80W wired charging and 27W reverse charging capabilities, this device targets users who prioritize endurance above all.

This week isn’t focused on launches, but rather on positioning. Expect more AI-assisted tuning, enhanced display hardware, greater battery capacity, and additional folding screens. CES 2026 will fill in the remaining details.
