Maresca joined the Blues in 2024 after achieving promotion to the top tier with Leicester City. During his inaugural season, the Italian guided Chelsea back to the Champions League, alongside claiming the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup titles.
However, a lackluster performance in December and an unprecedented outburst from the Italian led the club’s leadership to make the decision to part ways with the 45-year-old manager.
“Chelsea Football Club and head coach Enzo Maresca have parted company,” the club announced in a statement.
“With key objectives still in sight across four competitions, including qualification for Champions League football, both Enzo and the club feel that a change will provide the team with the best opportunity to get the season back on track.”
Chelsea was positioned as high as third in November and was viewed as a title contender, but has since fallen to fifth place, now 15 points behind league leaders Arsenal at the season’s midway point.
The club did not disclose who will take charge ahead of Sunday’s match against second-placed Manchester City.
