Indian travelers rank among the top purchasers of luxury items in Singapore.
Visitors from India rank among the top spenders on luxury items in Singapore, enabling the city-state’s high-end retailers to withstand a global decline in premium product sales, according to a leading business association on Monday, December 15.

In the first half of 2025, Indian tourists spent SGD 812.17 million in Singapore, marking an increase of 4.40% compared to the same time last year, based on data from the Singapore Tourism Board (STB).

“Indian tourists remain one of the island’s most economically important markets, significantly contributing to the rise in luxury spending in Singapore,” stated Mark Shaw, Chairman of the Orchard Road Business Association (ORBA).
ORBA is Singapore’s primary organization responsible for managing and promoting Orchard Road, a top shopping destination.

Experts note that, alongside Indian tourists, visitors from China and Indonesia are also playing vital roles in helping the city-state counteract a global downturn in luxury spending.

“Indian tourists tend to spend significantly and stay longer on average—6.3 days. These extended visits correlate with increased discretionary spending across retail, dining, entertainment, attractions, and accommodation,” Shaw remarked.

He was reflecting on the growing crowds at Orchard Road’s Christmas Market and Village during the festive season.

The Mastercard Economics Institute’s 2024 Travel Trends report highlighted that India’s burgeoning affluent population is increasingly pursuing luxury experiences, fine jewelry, and high-end fashion, driven by rising disposable incomes and aspirational lifestyles.

According to STB data, Indian visitor numbers in Singapore reached 1.03 million in the first ten months of the year, representing a 2.6% year-on-year increase. Overall, Singapore welcomed 14.25 million visitors between January and October 2025, up by 2.5%.

The London-based market research firm forecasts a 7-9% increase in luxury spending in Singapore, reaching approximately SGD 13.9 billion in 2025, outpacing regional shopping centers such as China and Japan.

This growth is fueled by wealthier consumers seeking premium products, experiences, and what is often referred to as “quiet luxury.” Singapore also hosts an increasing number of high-net-worth individuals, including 55 billionaires, as reported in a UBS wealth report published on December 4.

Global luxury brands like Prada and Van Cleef & Arpels have heightened their presence along Orchard Road’s hotel shopping area through outdoor displays, leveraging increased visitor traffic during the festive season.

A major highlight is ORBA’s annual Orchard Road Christmas Light-Up, ranked among the world’s top five, featuring elaborate decorations, snowfall shows, markets, live performances, and street festivities.

Orchard Road is one of Singapore’s two primary shopping regions that continues to attract leading global luxury brands.
