The 2025 edition of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list has been revealed, with Maido in Lima, Peru, claiming the number one position. The 23rd iteration of this prestigious ranking was disclosed on Thursday, June 19, in Turin, Italy. Sponsored by S. Pellegrino and Acqua Panna, this annual event celebrates outstanding culinary talent worldwide.

This year, Maido secured the top place on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list. Asador Etxebarri from Spain’s Basque region took second, followed closely by Quintonil in Mexico City, DiverXO in Madrid, and Alchemist in Copenhagen completing the top five. Here’s a closer look at the top seven restaurants.

Maido, Lima: This Nikkei dining establishment, led by chef Mitsuharu Tsumura, has achieved the pinnacle in the 2025 World’s 50 Best Restaurants. Known for its dynamic menu featuring over ten courses, the restaurant’s name derives from a Japanese term for greeting. Tsumura spoke about the importance of sustainability in the industry, remarking, “I believe this industry can demonstrate how we unite people through the power of food.”

Asador Etxebarri, Atxondo, Spain: This restaurant from the Basque region maintained its second-place ranking this year. Set in a picturesque Basque village surrounded by mountains and lush landscapes, it’s a haven for food lovers. Chef Bittor Arguinzoniz’s culinary creations draw food enthusiasts from across the globe.

Quintonil, Mexico City: Securing third position, this Mexican restaurant shines with its focus on fresh, local ingredients and the blend of traditional Mexican flavors with contemporary techniques.

DiverXO, Madrid: Renowned for its innovative flavors, this Spanish establishment ranked fourth. Situated in the Eurobuilding Hotel on Padre Damián Street 23, it opened its doors in 2007.

Alchemist, Copenhagen: Coming in at fifth, Alchemist is located in the more secluded area of Refshaleøen, Copenhagen, and is led by chef Rasmus Munk.

Gaggan, Bangkok: This iconic restaurant was named the 6th best in the world and awarded the title of Best Restaurant in Asia 2025. Located in a charming colonial-style villa, it is operated by chef Gaggan Anand.

Sézanne, Tokyo: Ranking seventh, Sézanne opened in July 2021 on the seventh floor of the Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Marunouchi, and is acclaimed for its neo-French cuisine crafted by British chef Daniel Calvert.
