Quraishi is a former Chief Election Commissioner of India.
Dubey’s religious dig at the former CEC followed his harsh criticisms of the Supreme Court and Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, accusing him of instigating “religious wars” in India, which prompted the BJP to reject his statements and distance itself from the contentious remarks.
On April 17, Quraishi claimed on X, “The Wakf Act is undeniably a blatantly sinister evil plan of the government to confiscate Muslim lands. I am confident that the Supreme Court will expose this. Misinformation from the devious propaganda machine has performed its role effectively.” Dubey chose to respond on Sunday.
Dubey remarked, “You were not an election commissioner; you were a Muslim commissioner. The highest number of Bangladeshi infiltrators were registered as voters in Santhal Pargana in Jharkhand during your time.
“Islam, as taught by Prophet Muhammad, came to India in 712. Prior to that, this land (Waqf) belonged to Hindus, tribals, Jains, or Buddhists affiliated with those beliefs.” Dubey stated that his village Vikramshila was destroyed by Bakhtiyar Khilji in 1189 and highlighted that the Vikramshila University produced the world’s “first vice chancellor” in Atish Dipankar.
He concluded, “Unite this country; understand history. Pakistan was formed through division. There will be no more partition.” Dubey is serving his fourth term as a Lok Sabha MP from Godda in Jharkhand.
