This new capability signifies a major enhancement to Meta’s AI ecosystem, which has previously required access to tools like Meta’s AI Studio or its platforms on Instagram and Messenger. By integrating chatbot creation into WhatsApp, Meta intends to deliver a seamless, cross-platform experience for users eager to personalize their AI interactions.
The chatbot creation process begins with users choosing a role for their assistant—such as a travel planner, study coach, or motivational buddy. Users can then specify personality traits like “calm and thoughtful,” “humorous and lively,” or “professional and informative.”
WhatsApp will utilize these inputs to provide smart suggestions that determine how the chatbot communicates and behaves. Each chatbot will also include an AI-generated avatar, which users can customize to better represent the assistant’s personality. Pre-set templates will further enhance tone, behavior, and interaction style, aiming for a more intuitive and natural user experience.
Once developed, the chatbot operates fully within WhatsApp. By default, it remains private to its creator, but it can also be shared via a unique link—whether in personal chats, group conversations, or even social media. This opens up a range of use cases spanning personal productivity, content creation, and entertainment.
The feature is currently being tested with select beta users on both Android and iOS, with a wider rollout anticipated in the coming weeks.
