RCB expresses sorrow after deadly stampede incident.
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) released an official statement on Wednesday expressing sorrow over the tragic loss of lives in the stampede that occurred during the victory parade celebrations following their first Indian Premier League (IPL) title win.

“We are profoundly saddened by the unfortunate events highlighted in media reports regarding public gatherings across Bengaluru in anticipation of the team’s arrival this afternoon. The safety and well-being of all individuals is our top priority. RCB grieves the loss of lives and extends heartfelt condolences to the affected families. Upon learning about the situation, we quickly adjusted our program and adhered to the guidance from local authorities. We urge all supporters to remain safe,” the franchise stated.

CM Siddaramiah orders inquiry
“11 people are dead and 33 others injured due to the stampede near Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru… More than 2-3 lakh individuals attended, and no one anticipated such a large crowd,” said Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at a press conference.

He noted that the stadium has a capacity of only 35 thousand spectators. The chief minister announced a magisterial inquiry into the incident and a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives.

The stampede transpired as thousands of fans attempted to enter the stadium through various gates. Police faced challenges in managing the crowd, resulting in chaos and transforming what should have been a celebratory event into a tragedy.

The police employed mild force to regain control and manage the situation ahead of a special ceremony for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team organized by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).

Despite the pandemonium outside, the felicitation of the players proceeded as scheduled, with the stadium being filled to capacity.

Footage showed individuals collapsing, with police transferring the injured and unconscious to nearby hospitals via ambulances. Some individuals were administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) by those nearby.

The injured were admitted to Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital in Shivajinagar, among others. Hospital sources indicated that fatalities might have resulted from suffocation. Heart-wrenching scenes unfolded at the hospitals as people mourned the loss of their loved ones.

“This stampede incident should not have occurred, and the government expresses deep sorrow over it,” Siddaramaiah remarked.
