The messaging platform stated that users will benefit from increased controls when creating polls. Poll creators can now set a voting expiry time, conceal participant names for more private responses, and amend poll questions within 15 minutes of their initial posting.
The updated polling features aim to facilitate quicker decision-making for groups on issues like choosing meeting times, locations, or planning events.
WhatsApp is also rolling out the @all mention feature, which lets users alert all group members simultaneously instead of tagging individuals one by one. This feature is particularly suitable for urgent updates such as schedule changes, deadlines, or significant announcements.
For groups exceeding 32 members, the @all option will be restricted to administrators. WhatsApp mentioned that users will retain control over notifications and have the option to mute @all alerts via notification settings, including in muted group chats.
Additionally, the company is implementing a feature that allows users to initiate a new group chat directly from an existing one. Users can select participants from an ongoing conversation to start a separate chat without the need to add members individually.
WhatsApp indicated that these enhancements build upon previous group chat updates, which included group message history, member tags, and event reminders. The company has been enhancing tools for group communication as group chats have become crucial for personal, workplace, and community interactions. According to the company, WhatsApp has over 3 billion users worldwide, with more than 100 million users in the US alone.
