The messaging application was previously unavailable for download on iPhones in India; however, it continued to be accessible on Google’s Play Store.
This update arrives as Telegram is facing increasing legal challenges globally regarding alleged misuse of the platform and its approach to extremist content.
Last week, Russian authorities charged Telegram founder Pavel Durov with enabling terrorist activities, claiming that Ukrainian intelligence leveraged the app to coordinate attacks within the country. Following this, Telegram shared an image of Durov making an offensive gesture.
The day after, Australia’s internet regulatory body initiated legal proceedings against Telegram for allegedly not removing videos depicting terrorist actions and mass shootings, including content associated with the Christchurch and Buffalo incidents.
Telegram has denied the Australian accusations, stating that it deleted over 150,000 terrorism-related communities in the first half of 2026.
