In an interview with CNBC-TV18, Duggal highlighted that India presents a unique mix of a large domestic market alongside export potential, making it an attractive location for semiconductor manufacturing.
“India has a bright future in electronics, SMT, and semiconductor manufacturing,” Duggal emphasized.
He noted that evolving geopolitical conditions and the necessity for diversified global supply chains have enhanced India’s role in the semiconductor value chain.
“Considering the current geopolitical situation and the demand for multiple diversified supply chains, now is an excellent time for India to invest in its initiatives,” he remarked.
Qualcomm strengthens manufacturing collaboration in India
Duggal mentioned that Qualcomm Technologies has bolstered its manufacturing footprint in India through a partnership with Tata.
“We recently formed a partnership with Tata, and they are producing various automotive-grade modules for us. This collaboration began earlier this year,” he explained.
The partnership mirrors Qualcomm Technologies’ overarching strategy of collaborating with Indian partners as the nation’s electronics manufacturing ecosystem evolves.
Domestic market boosts India’s semiconductor case
Duggal pointed out that India’s semiconductor goals are supported by both export opportunities and increasing domestic demand, as digital technologies integrate into various industries.
“India is distinctive in that it presents not just an export opportunity but also a significant domestic market, fueling its growth and the existing industries here,” he stated.
He highlighted that semiconductors are becoming vital components in an expanding array of products as digitization accelerates.
“Semiconductors are integral to almost everything you encounter as digitization progresses,” Duggal noted.
Beyond chip fabrication opportunities
As India continues to build its semiconductor ecosystem focused on manufacturing, assembly, testing, and design, Duggal indicated that developing large-scale capabilities will require ongoing investment and long-term dedication.
“This is a remarkable opportunity that demands effort, much like any other sizable market,” he asserted.
He added that the country’s semiconductor initiative aligns with both national strategic priorities and global industry demands.
“Among all the significant opportunities available to India, this one addresses a crucial national need along with substantial international export potential,” Duggal said.
India’s advancement in cutting-edge technologies
Beyond semiconductors, Duggal remarked that India is increasingly innovating technologies that cater to local market demands rather than merely adopting solutions from abroad.
“I am thrilled to see how swiftly India is advancing in sectors where it identifies chances not just to introduce products developed elsewhere, but also to innovate ahead of where technology is heading,” he commented.
He also noted that robust domestic innovation is fostering unique products across various sectors, with industrial automation and robotics emerging as promising growth areas.
“I believe industrial automation will likely be the next frontier, and with the rise of robotics, this area could become particularly noteworthy,” Duggal stated.
Duggal informed CNBC-TV18 that autonomous vehicles are anticipated to enter the Indian market as AI-driven driving systems mature, noting that advancements in software and semiconductors are transforming automobiles into intelligent, software-defined systems.
