Preeti Pawar claims gold in the women’s 54kg boxing category at the Commonwealth Games.

Indian boxer Preeti Pawar earned the gold medal in the women’s 54kg class with a commanding 5-0 win over Canada’s Scarlett Delgado at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Saturday.

From the very first round, Preeti dominated, with all five judges scoring it 10-8 in her favor. The World No. 3 in the bantamweight division kept up the intensity in the second round, clinching the contest and delivering India’s first gold medal of the day.

The 22-year-old reached the final following a perfect 5-0 unanimous-decision victory over Zambia’s Catherine Mwape in the semifinals.

India added another gold in boxing when Jaismine Lamboria triumphed over Northern Ireland’s Michaela Walsh, securing the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games on Saturday. This victory against the defending champion and three-time Commonwealth Games medallist ensured that India brought home two boxing gold medals in rapid succession.
