This initiative aims to reduce noise pollution in the area. Those who violate the rule will face penalties in accordance with the Motor Vehicles Act.
Nainital’s no-honking zone: Route, penalty
An extensive enforcement drive has been initiated to ensure compliance with the regulation. Vehicles that honk within the designated stretch from Tallital Danth to the Mallital Rickshaw Stand will incur a fine of Rs 1,000.
On July 21, Kumaon Commissioner Deepak Rawat held a meeting with public representatives and various departments to address the issue of noise pollution in Nainital. He subsequently issued instructions to the District Magistrate regarding the establishment of the horn-free zone.
The Transport Department, police, and municipal corporation have initiated an awareness campaign to notify taxi unions, local businesses, and drivers about the new regulation.
SDM Nawazish Khalik stated that police and administration teams are actively monitoring the zone to ensure adherence to the no-honking policy. He urged all drivers to refrain from unnecessary horn usage.
Nainital attracts visitors year-round, and the rising number of vehicles has negatively impacted its reputation as a peaceful tourist destination.

To enhance traffic flow around Naini Lake, the administration has also designated the entire route from Tallital Danth to Hanumangarhi Band as a no-parking zone. Law enforcement and local officials have been instructed to prevent roadside parking to alleviate traffic congestions.
Government and private vehicles lacking valid fitness certificates will be confiscated. To address the growing incidence of illegal taxi operations, the transport department and police have launched a collaborative campaign to identify private vehicles being used unlawfully, issue challans, and implement necessary legal actions.
