Tehran has announced it will cease its attacks as long as Washington reciprocates, with oil prices decreasing amid hopes for diplomatic progress. In the meantime, Iran has accused Ukraine of assaulting one of its commercial ships, resulting in the death of a sailor.
Following 13 nights of ongoing strikes on Iranian military sites, the Pentagon ended its campaign late Friday, allowing space for diplomacy. A senior Iranian official informed Reuters that Tehran would also stop its attacks as long as the US did the same.
This pause brought some relief to oil markets. Brent crude temporarily dipped below $90 a barrel, falling as much as 7% during early trading, while West Texas Intermediate approached $80, showing a decrease of around 4%.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused Ukraine of attacking an Iranian commercial vessel, which resulted in a sailor’s death, labeling it a “blatant” breach of the UN Charter. In a post on X, he noted that he had informed EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov that Kyiv’s actions “cannot go unanswered”.
