NTPC's Q1 Standalone Results Exceed Analysts' Predictions; Profit Rises 12% and ₹12,000 Crore NCD Plan Approved
State-owned power leader NTPC Ltd announced on Friday (July 24) an 11.9% increase in standalone net profit year-on-year, reaching ₹5,342.4 crore for the first quarter of FY27, compared to ₹4,774 crore during the same quarter last year.

The company’s net profit exceeded the CNBC-TV18 poll estimate of ₹4,790 crore.

Revenue saw a 3% rise year-on-year, amounting to ₹43,832 crore compared to ₹42,572 crore in Q1 FY26. This figure also surpassed the CNBC-TV18 poll estimate of ₹43,300 crore.

Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) surged by 22.8% year-on-year, reaching ₹12,629 crore from ₹10,283 crore in the same quarter last year. The EBITDA margin improved to 28.8% in Q1 FY27 from 24.2% in Q1 FY26.

This margin was above the CNBC-TV18 poll estimate of 27%. NTPC’s EBITDA performance also exceeded the CNBC-TV18 poll estimate of ₹10,780 crore.

NTPC announced that its board has sanctioned a proposal to raise up to ₹12,000 crore through the issuance of non-convertible debentures (NCDs), pending shareholders’ approval, in one or more tranches via private placement in the domestic market.

The planned NCDs may be secured or unsecured, redeemable, taxable or tax-free, cumulative or non-cumulative, and will be issued in up to 12 tranches or series.

This fundraising initiative will be valid from the date of passing the special resolution until one year later or the date of the company’s next Annual General Meeting (AGM) in the financial year 2027-28, whichever comes first.

NTPC indicated that the size, tenor, listing details on the BSE and/or National Stock Exchange (NSE), coupon or interest rate, security, if applicable, and other terms will be established at the time of issuing each tranche or series.

Shares of NTPC Ltd closed at ₹347.15, down by ₹1.60, or 0.46%, on the BSE.
