Adani Group refutes claims of intentions to launch an airline.
The Adani Group has refuted claims that it is planning to establish an airline, labeling the rumors as “completely unfounded” and “factually incorrect.”

In a statement released on Thursday, the conglomerate emphasized that it is not assessing any proposals to venture into the airline sector, rejecting recent news articles and market conjecture.

“The reports are completely baseless and factually incorrect. The Company is not considering any plans to enter the airline business,” the group stated.
This clarification follows a Reuters article that suggested billionaire Gautam Adani’s group was contemplating the launch of a new airline, citing sources familiar with the situation. The article indicated that discussions were in preliminary stages and no final decision had been made.
Reuters also reported that if pursued, this move could heighten competition within India’s aviation industry, which is currently led by IndiGo and Air India. The piece mentioned that the Adani Group, which manages eight airports nationwide and has an $11 billion airport expansion strategy, was assessing the possibility internally, despite having previously dismissed the idea of entering aviation.

Moreover, the report alleged that the Indian government had informally encouraged various business entities, including Adani, to consider starting an airline due to operational difficulties encountered by existing carriers. However, Reuters pointed out that the proposal remained under evaluation with no timeline set for a decision.

Importantly, the Adani Group had publicly dismissed such intentions earlier as well.

In a special interview with CNBC-TV18 in December 2025, prior to the opening of Navi Mumbai International Airport, Adani Group Director Jeet Adani remarked that the airline industry does not align with the group’s investment strategy.

“From a structural viewpoint, the airline sector is not something we view as compatible with our capital discipline. We typically invest in high-margin sectors and maximize asset utilization. Airlines contrast sharply with this from an economic standpoint. It does not make sense for us – neither today nor in the future,” Jeet Adani stated.

This latest clarification reinforces the group’s stance that it has no intentions of entering the airline business, notwithstanding media speculation.
