In a related situation, the pilgrimages to the Amarnath cave shrine, Mata Vaishno Devi, and Shiv Khori in Jammu and Kashmir have remained halted for the second straight day on Monday due to heavy rainfall and unfavorable weather. Authorities have advised pilgrims to remain at base camps and lodging facilities, with no new movement towards the shrines permitted until further notice.
The Amarnath Yatra from Jammu, Udhampur, and Ramban towards Srinagar has been stopped, resulting in many devotees stranded at various base camps across the Union Territory. The Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimage from Katra, along with the Shiv Khori Yatra in Reasi district, has also been suspended, with shrine boards requesting devotees to delay their travel for safety reasons.
This stoppage follows ongoing rainfall and reports of cloudbursts in parts of Kashmir since Sunday.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted moderate to widespread rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir from July 19 to 24, with officials stating that the pilgrimage routes will reopen only after weather conditions improve and safety evaluations are conducted.
