Despite Trump’s objections, the funds were transferred to Carroll’s legal team on Monday, following a US District Judge Lewis Kaplan’s approval to release money from a court-controlled account five days prior.
The payment includes the initial $5 million civil verdict, along with interest.

This is the first instance in which Trump has been mandated to compensate Carroll. Over the past seven years, she has secured $88.3 million in civil judgments against him since he initially refuted her account of being raped in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room in Manhattan around 1996.
Trump has labeled Carroll’s accusations a fabrication, denied any acquaintance with her, claimed she concocted the alleged rape to promote her memoir, and dismissed her case as “weaponisation and lawfare.” Recently, the US Supreme Court dismissed Trump’s appeal concerning the $5 million ruling.
A spokesperson for Trump’s legal team reiterated a previous statement following Kaplan’s decision: “The American People stand with President Trump as they demand an immediate end to all of the Witch Hunts, including the Democrat-funded travesty of the Carroll Hoaxes.”
TRUMP WARNED OF ‘IRREPARABLE HARM’
Last week, Trump’s attorney requested that a federal appeals court prevent the disbursement, asserting that the president would experience “irreparable harm” if Carroll followed through on her intention to donate the funds, as they believed the money might not be recoverable.

The attorney also noted that Carroll’s assurance of placing the money in an interest-bearing account for her retirement did not negate the possibility of her gifting it away.
Jurors granted Carroll a $5 million award due to a Trump denial in 2022, although they did not conclude that he raped her.
A separate jury in 2024 ruled that Trump must pay Carroll $83.3 million based on his initial 2019 denial during his first term in office.

Trump is anticipated to appeal that decision to the Supreme Court.
Carroll’s attorney, Roberta Kaplan, who is not related to the judge, stated: “Three years ago, a unanimous nine-member jury found President Trump liable for sexually assaulting and defaming E. Jean Carroll. We are happy to announce that she has received the damages awarded by the jury.”
