At the ‘Bright Minds Punjab 2026’ event held at Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan, Bains stated that the government had been developing the AI initiative for the last year and was now prepared to implement it in government schools.
The event saw attendance from former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, Education Secretary Sonali Giri, along with various teachers and students.
Outstanding Class 12 students achieving over 95% in their board exams were honored during the event.
During his address, Bains highlighted that these students symbolize the promising future of Punjab and the nation. He expressed his belief that many would ultimately serve the country as civil servants, doctors, lawyers, and other professionals.
This marked the first occasion where the education minister and education secretary directly engaged with students to gather feedback on the examination process, curriculum, and teaching strategies.
The suggestions provided would be taken into account in developing future education policies, he added.
Bains also mentioned that Punjab had made considerable advancements in school education, achieving the top rank in the national Education Index, crediting this success to the dedication of teachers, students, and government efforts.
Sisodia emphasized that the advancement of any nation is hinged on the quality of its educational system, asserting that it is the government’s primary duty to ensure every child receives high-quality education.
He pointed out that AI would generate new job opportunities while transforming traditional jobs, highlighting the necessity for students to acquire modern technological skills.
He further called for reforms in the evaluation system, the eradication of cheating, and the implementation of scientific teaching methods.
Education Secretary Sonali Giri encouraged teachers and students to work together in addressing issues like drug abuse, unemployment, and weaknesses within the educational system.
She also led a pledge for students to uphold constitutional values, preserve cultural heritage, and safeguard the environment.
