5.9 Magnitude Quake Rocks Pakistan and Afghanistan, No Damage Seen
PESHAWAR, Pakistan: A 5.9 magnitude earthquake hit areas of Pakistan and adjacent Afghanistan on Saturday, prompting alarmed residents throughout Pakistan to flee their homes, according to officials. No immediate reports of damage or injuries have surfaced.

The epicenter was located in Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region, as per the Pakistan Meteorological Department. Tremors were felt in Islamabad, the eastern province of Punjab, and the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which shares a border with Afghanistan. Additionally, it was experienced in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

Emergency services in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa indicated that district administrations were put on alert.
Anwar Shahzad, spokesperson for the Provincial Disaster Management Authority, reported that initial evaluations revealed no casualties or damages.

Pakistan is situated along an active seismic belt and often experiences earthquakes. A devastating magnitude 7.6 earthquake in 2005 resulted in the loss of tens of thousands of lives in Pakistan and Kashmir, the disputed Himalayan region claimed by both Pakistan and India.
