The most pressing flashpoints continue to be Lebanon and the Strait of Hormuz.
According to a report from Qatar, an agreement has been reached to establish a Lebanon de-confliction cell and a communication line to prevent incidents involving commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
Nevertheless, the negotiations are already facing challenges after US President Donald Trump threatened new strikes if Iran-backed factions in Lebanon “create disturbance.”
In another development, QatarEnergy reported an explosion and fire at the Barzan gas facility in Ras Laffan on Sunday night, which has since been controlled.
Technical discussions are anticipated to carry on throughout the week at the Bürgenstock resort.
“Persistent mediation from Pakistan and Qatar has led to significant progress toward ending the Lebanon War. Oil and petrochemical exports are set to resume, the blockade has been lifted, some frozen assets released, and a substantial reconstruction and development plan has been initiated for Iran,” stated Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi after the first day of negotiations concluded.
