EC declares Rajya Sabha elections for 24 seats on June 18.

Bengal Elections Phase 1: 78 Nominations Submitted for 152 Seats on Opening Day
The Election Commission announced on May 22 that elections for 24 Rajya Sabha seats will take place on June 18 due to the retirement of current members, including former prime minister HD Deve Gowda and Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Digvijay Singh.

According to the EC’s statement, the elections will occur in 10 states where incumbents are retiring on various dates from June 21 to July 19.

Elections for the Rajya Sabha will cover four seats each in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, and Karnataka; three seats in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan; two seats in Jharkhand; and one seat each in Manipur, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, and Mizoram.
The deadline for submitting nominations is June 8.

Among those stepping down from the Rajya Sabha are Gowda and Congress president Kharge (both from Karnataka), along with union ministers Ravneet Singh (Rajasthan) and George Kurian (Madhya Pradesh), as well as former chief minister Digvijay Singh and Congress leader Shaktisinhji Govil, among others.

The EC has also revealed bypolls for one seat each in the Council of States from Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.

In Maharashtra, the council seat became vacant after Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar resigned, having since been elected to the state assembly.
