Bike taxis are prohibited from operating in the state.
In a correspondence to the Additional Director General of Police (Cyber Crime) and shared with the Director General of Police, Sarnaik highlighted that numerous unauthorized bike taxi services are functioning without the essential permissions.
These applications are blatantly violating governmental regulations during financial transactions, which negatively impacts the livelihoods of licensed taxi and rickshaw drivers, the minister emphasized.
According to Sarnaik, app-based bikes do not follow safety guidelines, posing a significant risk to public safety.

He pointed out that there are insufficient safety measures for passengers, including driver verification, insurance coverage, women’s safety protocols, and emergency response systems.
The minister also referenced an accident involving an unauthorized bike taxi on Mumbai’s Bandra Link Road on April 22, which resulted in a woman’s death.
Sarnaik asserted that unauthorized bike taxi applications linked to companies such as Ola, Uber, and Rapido should be immediately deactivated, and strict legal measures taken against the app firms, drivers, and operators under the Information Technology Act and the Motor Vehicles Act.
