Pilgrims for Char Dham Yatra Cautioned to Travel After May 13 Due to IMD’s Orange Alert

Pilgrims embarking on the Char Dham Yatra have been urged to exercise caution following an orange alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for Uttarakhand on May 12 and 13, highlighting the possibility of rain and unstable weather across various regions of the state, especially in the hill districts.

Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey urged pilgrims and tourists to stay updated on weather conditions prior to starting their journey, according to news agency ANI.

He warned that adverse weather could affect the mountainous areas over the next two days and advised travelers to prioritize their safety.
“Pilgrims should stay informed about weather updates and plan their travels with utmost care,” Pandey stated in a report from ANI.

The commissioner further suggested that devotees consider delaying their trips until conditions improve, asserting that traveling once the weather stabilizes would be safer and more comfortable. He also emphasized the importance of following guidance from district authorities and local administrations during the yatra.

The weather agency forecasted light precipitation below 5 mm per hour, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds of under 40 km/h in various segments of the yatra route between 9 am and 12 noon on May 11.

Meanwhile, routes such as Haridwar to Rishikesh, Rishikesh to Tehri, Tehri to Uttarkashi, and Mussoorie to Haridwar were placed under “no warning” status during the same timeframe.

Officials stated that the state administration has instructed all departments involved in the pilgrimage to be prepared and ensure sufficient safety measures for devotees.

The annual Char Dham Yatra, which commenced last month, attracts millions of pilgrims annually to Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri.
