This development suggests a potential reduction in tensions that had led to the suspension of various visa categories in recent months.
Aniruddha Das, India’s assistant high commissioner in Sylhet, has reportedly confirmed that efforts are in motion to resume all previously halted visa services, as reported by News18, referencing bdnews24.
“Medical and double-entry visas are currently being issued, and measures are being taken to reinstate other categories, including travel visas,” Das was quoted as saying at the Sylhet District Press Club.
The diplomat also emphasized the importance of full cooperation to enhance bilateral engagement through easier visa processes, highlighting that India-Bangladesh relations are founded on “mutual respect and honor.”

“The inhabitants of both nations will be key stakeholders in establishing a stable, positive, constructive, long-lasting, and mutually beneficial relationship,” Das noted, adding that both countries “share a common perspective” and are eager to collaborate, according to bdnews24.
Visa suspensions amid political unrest
Indian visa centers in Bangladesh had halted services due to rising tensions following the death of student leader Sharif Osman Hadi in December 2025.
The incident sparked widespread protests across Bangladesh, some of which expressed anti-India sentiments.
Relations were already tenuous after the ousting of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India on August 5, 2024, amid significant demonstrations.
Reacting to the deteriorating situation, Bangladesh imposed reciprocal restrictions in January, suspending most visa categories for Indian nationals, with the exception of business and employment visas. These restrictions were extended to Bangladeshi missions in Kolkata, Mumbai, and Chennai, as reported by News18.
